CITY OF BUFFALO HOME GROWN HOMEOWNERSHIP PROGRAM
The City of Buffalo is working to give vacant homes a new life through their Home Grown Homeownership program. First-time, income-eligible homebuyers will be able to purchase a vacant home from the City of Buffalo Divison of Real Estate and recieve financial assistance to make necessary repairs in order to bring the structure up to code and ready for move-in. The funding comes in the form of a conditional grant that will be used for gap financing, if needed, for down payment and clost cost assistance as well as rehabilitation costs.

Eligibility:

  • Must be a first-time homebuyer 
  • Must be income eligibile: (50%-80% AMI
  • Applies to one-family and two-family homes only 
  • Home must be purchased from the City of Buffalo Division of Real Estate 
  • You must plan to own and occupy the home for 10 years 
  • You must complete a HUD certified Homebuyer Education Class 
  • SONYMA Remodel NY mortgage pre-qualifications (from M&T Bank) will be required in order to complete an application.
