We're painting a mural in Black Rock!

With the (scary!) industrial fire just down the street from Black Rock-Riverside NHS Wednesday, there couldn't be a better time to spruce up our little corner of the neighborhood. We'll be out on Saturday, July 16 at 10 a.m. with volunteers from United Way for Family Volunteer Day, painting a mural designed by Cassandra Krieger, an art education student at Buffalo State College.
Cassandra (we call her Cassie) took photos of houses around Black Rock and created stylized versions of them for the mural, which depicts a Black Rock community. We've been using a projector and working overnight to get the outlines done, since we couldn't see the projector in the daytime! PUSH Buffalo generously let us use their projector Tuesday night after ours broke, and we can't thank them enough, because we're not exactly sure what we would have done if they hadn't.
You can see more photos of the project as we complete it on the West Side NHS facebook page, or let us know you're coming at our Eventbrite site. We'd love to see you out there Saturday!

Thank you everyone! It's not done, but it's looking great, and we're so proud to see our neighborhood's creativity in this mural (and the creativity of our United Way volunteers from the Joan A. Male center)! See more photos in our Facebook album, and check out the WGRZ story below!
